by @charissa_and_co_wellness

Sticking to a lifestyle that has less refined sugars and processed ingredients not only allows for less inflammation within the body. A healthy lifestyle full of whole minimally processed ingredients is good for our brain health and let’s not forget our HORMONE Health.

These easy to make apple pie inspired muffins is not only clean, chewy + tasty, but they are free from refined sugars, trans fats and they are totally gluten and dairy free! Using flax is a great way to naturally replace gluten-containing grains in recipes.

They are made with simple hormone friendly ingredients that even supports healthy digestion. One of the greatest perks of flaxseed is that it’s packed with antioxidants, specifically the type called lignans. Therefore, flax has anti-aging, hormonal-balancing + cellular-regenerating effects.

These muffins are filling thanks to the fiber and healthy fats!

Always ensure you wash your fruit and vegetables well. Especially when they are non-organic or part of the dirty dozen! Toxins, pesticides are some of those endocrine disruptors. They can throw our hormones out of balance.

Flax is low in carbohydrates + extremely high in both soluble + insoluble fiber. This means it also supports colon detoxification, supporting a healthy metabolism and can reduce sugar cravings.

OMEGA-3 fats, which is one reason why flaxseeds, walnuts and chia seeds have become known for their anti-inflammatory effects.

PMS IS NOT NORMAL, IT IS COMMON BUT NOT NORMAL

PMS affects at least 75% of women. That’s right, the majority of women are feeling it. Of these some suffer more than others.

PMS is not inevitable. It does NOT require medical intervention in most cases especially if we address the root causes. Looking at the root causes and finding natural healthy ways to mitigate these symptoms.

OUR BODIES are NOT FLAWED that we need synthetic medication. No thank you!!

The real cause for PMS is - Your hormones become unbalanced, your estrogen levels increase and progesterone levels decrease, either relatively or absolutely.

Symptoms associated with PMS include: irritability, depression/anxiety, headaches, mood fluctuations, fluid retention, bloating, breast tenderness, sugar cravings, insomnia and even some stages insulin resistance.

One of the causes of PMS is excess oestrogens that are recycled through the body because the liver is overloaded by stressors and the gut is not able to help in eliminating these properly so they recirculate. A diet that includes industrial raised meats and dairy contributes. Environmental toxins also play a major role especially when it comes to endocrine disruptors like plastic, pesticides etc.

I have recently come to note that when your hormones are out of whack. Avoid visiting the GP, unless they are a hormone / endocrine specialist. It is key to find the right person to give you the right advise and NOT MASK the symptoms with these synthetic ways most do. Most of the time ‘birth control pills’ are given to “balance hormones”. This is not what it does! It mucks up your body.

Dr Mark Hyman speaks of natural ways to look at balancing hormones along with key lifestyle factors we can start doing.

“Of course, the drug companies don’t want you to know that! So the conventional treatments for PMS range from anti-inflammatory drugs such as Advil or Aleve to birth control pills. And then there are the big guns …

These include prescription medications such as danazol, a drug that suppresses ovulation and causes increased facial hair, acne, and a deep voice. Newer, very expensive drugs called gonadatropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) analogs actually change brain chemistry to turn off the ovaries’ production of estrogen and progesterone — but they also lead to osteoporosis.

Sometimes, diuretics like spironolactone are used to treat fluid retention. A drug called bromocriptine can be used to stop prolactin production and is used to treat breast tenderness.”
